DMX & Scarface

DMX & Scarface - October 12th 2014 - Personal - The Basement - Atlanta, Georgia

I have shot the A3C festival a few times over the years. In 2014 I was just hopping around East Atlanta Village and decided to catch the Scarface show at the Basement. Midway through Scarface’s set there was a big commotion. Everyone was looking at the entrance and lo and behold who walks in? The legendary DMX! This was unplanned even by Scarface. Apparently DMX was in ATL and was a huge fan of Scarface and wanted to catch his set. The photo you see is me yelling at Scarface to look up, I had crawled up a speaker array to get away from the numerous photographers surrounding Face and DMX, this is the exact moment Scarface saw me and got DMX to look up. Boom! Next thing I know Scarface invited me down to follow him and DMX to the bar. We ended up having an impromptu shoot at the bar and then onto playing pool. The whole time they were playing to my camera despite all the other shooters there. Pro Tip: if your at an event with a million photographers find a spot they are not, find YOUR SHOT! This shot made me so warm and fuzzy inside, this kind of photo cannot be planned, its true spontaneous energy that you’re lucky to get only a couple times in a career. RIP DMX!
